In Ontario, by law all HVAC companies must obtain and show you, if requested, all licensing, registration and qualifications before starting the quote/job.

When choosing a company make sure that the service will be performed by a licensed technician, find out how long the HVAC company has been in the business, ask for the references and samples of previous work and don't forget to ask if the company is fully licensed and insured.

In Ontario, Trades persons working in a consumers’ home or business must have a Certificate of Qualification (Refrigeration/Air Conditioning License) to execute cooling service installations and have a TSSA Gas Fitter License to execute heating service installations.

Heating, Ventilation and Air-Conditioning Contractors are required by law to have, liability and property damage insurance along with WSIB clearance for any work to be performed on site. Contractor Registration as a TSSA Fuel Safety Contractor is mandatory as well as the Ontario College of Trades
Certificate of Qualification (Refrigeration/Air Conditioning License). This is a Compulsory Trade License requirement to execute Service Installations at a consumers’ home or business as like an Electrician, Plumber or Sheet Metal Worker.
